During a lesson an Alexander Technique teacher - by means of gentle touch and words- helps the pupil to gradually establish again and again a better relationship of the head to the neck and the back in application to basic movements which are performed daily, such as standing, walking, sitting, bending, and also to a lying down position. A learning process begins, where muscular habits and habits of thought are encountered, and during which changes take place.
Gradually, the Alexander Technique is applied to other movements in relation to the pupils` specific needs, such as: writing, sitting in front of a computer screen, typing and using the mouse, using a particular tool, playing a musical instrument, use of the voice, singing, dance movements, sports activities, etc... - there is an infinite application of it.
The number of lessons necessary to learn the Alexander Technique varies from person to person, but an average of 20 to 30 lessons is required to acquire, through sensorial experience, the tools (means-whereby) the individual can apply to one`s daily life.
